Wikipedia has now replaced the pie chart with a bar chart.

Now I know that this is heresy of the worst kind, but I preferred the pie chart. It provides information visually that is not easily available from the bart chart. For instance, it shows that the 9 biggest states have about 50% of the total population. It also displays the relationship of each state's population to the total more clearly. Sure, it doesn't display the data for the small states clearly, but that's what the table is for.
I don't see anything wrong with the table either.

Hello John.

I have the Office 2010 32-bit running Windows 7 Ultimate on one machine and the 2010 64-bit running Windows 7 Ultimate on a similar machine. Office runs better in the 32-bit version as far as I have been able to tell with my testing.

It is funny, the Dell with the Dual-Quad core processors and a whopping 32-gigs of ram underperforms the Dell with a single Quad core processor with 18-gigs of ram. The machine with the single quad-core has the 32-bit version of Office. Both running the I7 processor.

When I bought Office 2010 I thought that the 64-bit version would perform much better. I should have done my research. Zack told me this months after I made my purchase. I still do not understand why this is the case.

Can someone explain this to me?

Regarding the average 1st date, you could convert the date to the number of elapsed days since the 1st day of the year and average that result? That would then give you an average you could add to the first date of the year to get the average date you expect something. If x is the date you saw the first robin then Days = Value("01/01/" & YEAR(x))- x
Averaging this will give you the day the event has happened over time. To see what day that equates to this year then INT(AverageDays) + DateValue("01/01/" & YEAR(today())

My problem is similar to aphrodaia's mentioned above. I would like to use month/day without the year.

I want to find the average 1st date that an event occurs. Suppose that I see my first American Robin of the year on March 10 2011 and the folowing year on March 12 2012. The average 1st date would be, of course March 11th. However, when I enter the dates into Excel as 3/10 and 3/12, Excel automatically asssumes that they are for the current year. Using the averaging function, Excel gives me an average date of November 04 2011. Not what I want at all!

Here, I am trying to average 12 years worth of date, not just two, and there are 100's of species to record, so averaging this manually is quite a chore.

Can anyone see a solution? Thanks, Bob.

I think it would be awesome for not only guitarists,but pianists and theory geeks alike (including myself).
And then, Take it one step further by implementing rules of harmony and showing chord progression.
"Rnd" is a VBA function it is not a variable.
It returns a random value less than 1 but greater than or equal to zero.

Declaring it as a Single just makes it a variable with a value of zero. That is why the code runs faster.
The modification to make is...
Change: If Rnd <= 0.5
To: If Rnd <= 0.5!
I believe I found an error in your Excel 2010 Formulas. I hope this is the appropriate place to post it. On page 651, you are explaining the Select Case construct in VBA, and say in the last sentence on that page that "Any number of instructions can be written below each Case statement; they all execute if that case evaluates to TRUE." I was pretty sure that was wrong, so I tested it (and looked it up in VBA help). It only executes the first true statement. Other than that, I love your book!
